The Foundation was established in 1960 by George Northcott who came to live at Lympstone after World War 11.
He was the son of Otterton’s blacksmith. He won a scholarship to King’s School, Ottery St Mary and later read engineering at Cambridge.
Success in business followed and he became one of Devon’s greatest post-war philanthropists, with gifts to medical research and Exeter University as well as development of the Northcott Theatre.
When he died his daughter Betty Clark continued his work until her own untimely death. The Foundation is now managed by a board of Trustees and has been assisting those in need for over 50 years.
